— LEWISBURG -- Evangelical Community Hospital has performed successfully 718 heart procedures since 2010, the Lewisburg health care facility reports.

That total includes before the opening of the $35 million, 42,000-square-foot surgical and cardiovascular expansion, which turns a year old in June. But since the hospital was authorized for heart care it has steadily saved more lives, said spokeswoman Deanna Hollenbach.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Center helps heart procedure patients make more improvements to their health through lifestyle changes and counseling. And the accredited cardiac rehabilitation program has helped patients for more than 35 years.

The center "has been well received," Hollenbach said, particularly the bank of windows added to the rehab suite.

"People like to see outside," she said. "It lets them take their mind off their outcomes and relax." They also get a boost from one-on-one attention from the many rehab specialists on hand, she said.
