MIFFLINBURG — Charles Place already has become a Mifflinburg staple in just three months, but customer loyalty will get a real test as the big reconstruction project on Route 45 starts in the borough.
But Karen Bowersox, who works at the shop at 456 Chestnut St., isn’t worried.
“We’ll play it by ear,” she said. “And we deliver, so we can get to them.”
Brothers Brian Kapp and Michael Doane opened the shop Jan. 4, and business has been pretty good, said Bowersox, who is Doane’s girlfriend and started at the shop full time when it opened.
Lunchtime is the busiest, she said, and “a lot of regulars already are showing up.”
The main attraction is Charles’ cheesesteak, made with rib-eye steak and topped with Cheez Whiz for an authentic Philly experience. The small sandwich has about a half-pound of steak, Bowersox said; you can imagine how big the large is.
The shop also offers specials every day of the week; right now, customers can get a pizza with one topping, a two-liter bottle of soda and a Weekender Bag of Middleswarth Chips for $25.
Summer hours will be coming up soon, possibly to work around that construction project as best as possible. Right now, visit Charles Place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
