LEWISBURG -- First-time mothers of disadvantaged background will benefit from an $187,000 grant that will bring the Nurse-Family Partnership to Union County and make it available to the rest of Snyder County, officials announced this morning at Country Cupboard in Lewisburg.
This makes six counties and 169 mothers in the Valley covered under the partnership, which pairs women within the first 28 weeks of their first pregnancy with a nurse who will guide them on health matters, doctor visits and parenting until the child is two years old.
Eight nurses will assist 44 mothers in Union and Snyder counties under the program extension.
The grant came through a competitive application submitted by the Office of Child Development and Early Learning to the Health Resources and Services Administration.
