SUNBURY — Phyllis L. Gaugler, 85, of 800 Court St., went home to be with her Lord on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, surrounded by family, friends, and the staff at Manor Care.
Phyllis was born Jan. 14, 1928, in Herndon, a daughter of the late Lloyd O. and Alice E. (Herrold) Wise. She was the last surviving child of four daughters and three sons.
Phyllis was a member of Sunbury High School, Class of 1946.
She married Theron A. Gaugler Jr., on Feb. 3, 1950, and were blessed with three children, Douglas A. and wife, Leola A. Gaugler, of Sunbury, Faye C. Gaugler, of Northumberland, and Ted A. Gaugler and wife Deb A., of Sunbury. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage, a union broken by his death in 2004. She is also survived by four granddaughters and husbands, Elisabeth A. and Troy McGinty, Sara A. Gaugler, Jennifer L. and Joey Mills, and Stacy M. Gaugler; one great-granddaughter, Adela McGinty; many nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Ethelmae Wise, of Sunbury and Marjorie Wise, of Northumberland.
Phyllis was a homemaker and an active member of Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church of Sunbury, where she enjoyed her fellowship group.
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and staff at Manor Care who loved her and were impacted by her life of selflessness. She enjoyed her family and others, showing her love and concern in many ways. During her years as a resident of Manor Care she was involved in an art contest and even had a cook-off with a member of the staff. She loved Shikellamy football games and faithfully attended with her husband.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, followed by a memorial service at 11 with the Rev. Charles Cole officiating. Interment will be in the Pomfret Manor Cemetery with Pastor Joshua Gibson officiating.
