BLOOMSBURG — William R. Barstler, 86, of 1879 Old Berwick Road, died at his home at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014. He had been in failing health for several months.
Born in Sunbury on April 22, 1927, he was the son of the late Roscoe C. and Grace A. (Campbell) Barstler.
A 1945 graduate of Bloomsburg High School, he had lived in Bloomsburg since 1930.
Bill began working with Columbia Aircraft Services at the Bloomsburg Airport in 1946 and retired as the owner in 1993.
He served with the Army’s First Infantry Division in Germany during World War II.
Bill was a 50-year member of Washington Lodge 265, Free & Accepted Masons, and of the Caldwell Consistory. He also belonged to Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
Surviving is one niece, Ellen McAllen, of Salisbury, Md.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Della Nola Martz, on April 6, 2000; one sister, Sarah Henderson Bucher, on June 23, 2000; and one nephew, John Bucher.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, followed by the funeral at 2 with the Rev. Allen F. Acor, pastor of Hendrickson-Mooresburg United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy, with military honors by the combined VFW group.
