LEWISBURG — Madelyn B. Mzhickteno, 87, a resident for many years at Heritage House, Lewisburg, passed away Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
She was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Kansas City, Kan., a daughter of the late James Henry and Sarah Gardie (Baswell) Clarke. She was raised on a farm in Arkansas with her six siblings. On Dec. 18, 1943, she married LeRoy Mzhickteno of the Prairie Band Potawatomie Indian Nation in Kansas. He preceded her in death.
Madelyn was a graduate of Lawrence, Kan., High School. During World War II, she worked in a defense plant and eventually became a superintendent overseeing a number of employees. Later in life, Madelyn enjoyed being a homemaker and had a day care center for children in her home. After her retirement, Madelyn’s greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Wherever she lived, Madelyn was a devoted church member.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Ona and Richard Fleming, of Lewisburg, and Elaine and Dave Barr, of the Prairie Band Potawatomie Indian Nation in Kansas; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Aaron Streitberger.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg, followed by a memorial service at 11. A luncheon will follow the service.
