Edward C. Chervanik, 88, Stonington

STONINGTON — Edward Charles Chervanik, 88, of Stonington, entered into eternal rest with his family and friends by his side on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township.

Eddie was born Nov. 7, 1924, in Sunbury, a son of the late Helen (Bunk) and Michael Chervanik. On April 25, 1953, he married the former Betty Supsic who preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 2008.

He attended Sunbury schools and was a member of the graduating class of 1943. He was forever proud of his perfect attendance award received during his school years. Eddie was a member of the Army from June 1943 to January 1946 when he was honorably discharged as a sergeant. He often shared many stories of his service to our country during World War II.

Eddie was a dedicated worker and was employed as a factory supervisor at various factories during the course of his career to include Westinghouse, L’aiglon Dress, David Knit and Butte Knit in Northumberland. He enjoyed working at Masser’s Restaurant in Paxinos after his retirement.

Eddie was a member of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Elysburg. He was a man of peace and loved God and his family.

Eddie was an avid baseball player who played on various baseball teams in the Sunbury and Irish Valley areas during his youth and mid-years. He was passionate about Phillies baseball and enjoyed watching the “bums” on television. He loved playing 500 Rummy and listening to country-western music while working on word puzzles. His smile could light up a room and his wonderful sense of humor helped him to stay positive during the many challenges he faced due to his health over recent years.

Eddie is survived by his loving children, one daughter and son-in-law, Judy (Chervanik) and Thomas Letcavage, of Paxinos; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Edward amd Kay (Masser) Chervanik, of Tallahassee, Fla.; three grandchildren, Taryn Vanaskie, of Albany, N.Y., and Kyle Chervanik and Carly Chervanik, of Tallahassee, who were his pride and joy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Al and Eleanor Chervanik, of Sunbury and Michael and Lucille Chervanik, of Shamokin Dam; brother-in-law, Thomas Barsh, of Sunbury; three sisters-in-law, Anne (Supsic) and Joe Shepos, of Harrisburg, Dot (Supsic) Fox, of Sunbury, and Anne Schlagel, of Paxinos; and numerous loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Eddie was preceded in death by a son, Edward Charles Chervanik in 1955; two sisters, Mary Barsh and Josephine Zerbe; as well as several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Elysburg.

Interment will follow in St. Edward’s Cemetery, Coal Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Eddie’s memory may be made to Queen of the Most Holy Rosary

Church, Elysburg, PA 17824.
