DANVILLE — Robert “Bob” Miller, 77, of 218 Maple St., passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011 at his residence.
He was born Dec. 20, 1933 in Shamokin, a son of the late Robert and Lula Hill Miller. He was married for 54 years to Dolores F. Clemens, who preceded him in death on May 9, 2007.
Bob attended Sunbury schools and later in life graduated with an associate’s degree in human services from the Pennsylvania School of Technology in Williamsport.
He served in the United States Marine Corps as a sergeant during the Korean War.
Bob was employed as a psychiatric aide for 30 years at Danville State Hospital, retiring in 1987, and by Northumberland County as an intensive case manager for eight years. He was a school bus driver for Bus #7 for the Danville Schools for many years and actively served with the Danville Ambulance as chief driver and as president.
Bob attended Mahoning Presbyterian Church, Danville.
His memberships included Boy Scout Troop #7 in Sunbury, a life member of VFW in Sunbury, the Danville Moose, a member of AFSCME Local 1513 and he was a former commander of the American Legion Post 44, Northumberland. He was also a member of the Danjo Wheelers. One of Bob’s greatest joys was dancing, including ballroom, round and square dancing.
He is survived by one son, Robert J. Miller, of Shamokin; three daughters, Janelle D. Miller, of Yucca Valley, Calif., Michelle A. Rider and husband Neil, of Millville, and Camille A. Kriner, of Riverside; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; also by his life companion, Mary Jane Buehner, of Danville; and by three sisters, June Dunham, of Selinsgrove. Dolores Kurtz, of Augustaville, and Violet S. Miller, of Tampa, Fla.
In addition to his wife, Bob was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas J. Miller and two sisters, Joanne Heintzelman and Shirley Miller.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Bob’s life at 11 a.m. Monday at Mahoning Presbyterian Church, 106 E. Mahoning St., Danville, with his pastor, the Rev. Judson S. Bennett officiating.
