— CELINA, Ohio - Robert Evans, 85, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at the home of his nephew and niece, Robert M. and Karen V. Evans, of Celina.
He was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Wellston, Ohio, a son of the late Robert W. and Catherine (Durkin) Evans. He was married for 61 years to the former Alice Castles. who preceded him in death.
Robert served in the Navy during World War II.
He was employed for five years at Spandau Prison in Berlin, Germany, guarding Hitler's henchmen. He then worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 25 years.
Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Robert is survived by his sisters-in-law, Connie (Michaels) Evans, of St. Mary's, Ohio, Ashford and Becky Castles, of Winnsboro, S.C., and Bill and Beck (Castles) Gossett, of Columbia, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings. Thomas W. Evans and Ruth Ann (Evans) Connell.
Robert donated his body to science through Humanity Gifts at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. There will be no public service.
