Walter C. Gilmore Jr., 86, Moorestown, N.J.

MOORESTOWN, N.J. — Walter C. Gilmore Jr., 86, of Moorestown and Eagles Mere, Pa., died peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2013.

Walter was born Dec. 22, 1926, in Nashville, Tenn., the son of the late Walter C. Sr. and Grace (Brannom) Gilmore. He was the beloved husband of the former Clarice Hefty, of Watsontown, Pa. They were married on Jan. 28, 1961, and recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Walter was a World War II veteran. He joined the Marines at age 18 and served more than two years in the liberation of Northern China. After the war, he attended the University of Toledo on the GI Bill and graduated in 1951 with a bachelor of science, engineering physics. In 1956, he obtained a master’s in physics from Drexel University.

Walter worked primarily at RCA, now GE, for approximately 39 years as an electrical engineer. His particular focus was on government defense, working on communications and satellite systems for various government projects including the space shuttle and Aegis Missile Defense ships.

Walter loved the outdoors and especially working on his garden. He always enjoyed summers spent with family in Eagles Mere, which involved golfing, hiking and fishing. He would always generously volunteer to assist in his kids’ activities, including Little League, Cub Scouts, Indian guides, Eagles Mere Water Carnival, Brownies, et al. Walter also was an avid bridge player. Most of all, he was beloved for his kindness and gentleness of spirit by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived and was a loving dad to Lorraine Robbins Scaven (Greg), of Mesa, Ariz., Ann Louise Migrala (Peter), of Maple Shade, N.J., and Walter Alan Gilmore (Kristin), of Pennington, N.J., and loving grandpa to Tori, Lauren, Jessica, Joey, Alison, Noah and Walter Colin.

Relatives and friends are invited to Walter’s life celebration service from 10 to 11 a.m. today in First Presbyterian Church, 101 Bridgeboro Road, Moorestown, N.J., followed by the funeral at 11. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Eagles Mere Cemetery, Eagles Mere, with the Rev. Deane S. Shively officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association, 1617 JFK Blvd., Suite 700, Philadelphia, PA 19103.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, Pa.
