NORTHUMBERLAND — Rachel B. Cook, 97, of Northumberland, passed away Saturday Dec. 21, 2013, in Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
She was born in Northumberland on Aug. 10, 1916, a daughter of the late Francis and Priscilla (Shaffer) Reigle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Cook, in 1994.
Rachel was a graduate of Northumberland High School and also attended the Smith Practical Nursing School in Bloomsburg. She retired in 1978 from the Geisinger Medical Center where she was employed in housekeeping. She was also a salesperson for the Tri-Chem Liquid Embroidery Co.
Rachel was the oldest member of the Klinesgrove United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, liquid embroidery, quilting, painting and doing plastic canvas. She also enjoyed playing bingo and yahtzee.
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Nola and Donald McCormick, of Bloomsburg, Lee and Nancy Cook, of Paxinos, Richard and Sandra Cook, of Klinesgrove and David and Sharan Cook, of Riverside. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one daughter in infancy; two brothers, Clinton and Jonathan; three sisters, Edna Shissler, Grace Middlesworth and Myrtle Wintersteen; and one grandson, Richard Cook.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Nottingham Village for the care and loving kindness extended to Rachel.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in the Klinesgrove United Methodist Church, Klinesgrove, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
