— McCLURE — Maxine Jane Hockenbrock, 79, of 41 W. Specht St., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born Nov. 16, 1934, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late William Floyd Conner and Katharine Irene Bowers.

Maxine was a 1953 graduate of McClure High School, where she was a cheerleader, played basketball, was May queen and Homecoming queen and was voted by her classmates as best looking, having the nicest personality and most popular.

She spent the majority of her career as a devoted and loving mother and homemaker.

After high school, she worked at Cluett Peabody in Lewistown, and in later years after raising her children, she worked for Middleswarth & Sons and McDonald Wildlife Photography before retiring.

Maxine had a real zest for life and was always entertaining for friends, family and neighbors.

She will always be remembered for her famous three-layer white buttermilk cake, baked for all special occasions, and her wonderful home-cooked meals. She was a true angel, mentor, amazing mother and the rock that held her family together.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Penrose Tobias Hockenbrock; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Troy and Angie Hockenbrock, of McClure, Dane Hockenbrock, of State College, and Scott and Amy Hockenbrock, of Middleburg; two brothers William F. Conner, of Milan, Mich., and David Conner, of Lewistown; eight grandchildren, Cassie, Brittany, Austin, Taylor, Chase, Christian, Olivia and Nora; and three great-grandchildren, Ava, Veyda and Lennan.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Norma Goss, and two brothers, Raymond M. Conner and Richard C. Conner.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Mount Bethel Church, McClure.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make donations to the McClure Veterans Memorial Pool, mailed to Janet Will, P.O. Box 155, McClure, PA 17841, and also to the Cardiac Care Unit at Geisinger Medical Center, mailed to Geisinger Medical Center MC 25-76, 100 Academy Drive, Danville, PA 17822.
