John R. Fatchaline, 83, Shamokin Dam

— SHAMOKIN DAM — John R. Fatchaline, 83, of Jonathan Road, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born Feb. 4, 1930, in Philadelphia and grew up in the Drexel Hill area. He was the son of the late Maurice and Sarah (Moore) Fatchaline. On Jan. 26, 1957, he married the former Margaret “Peg” Crawford who survives.

John was a 1948 graduate of Upper Darby High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the Army from Nov. 7, 1951 until 1953 with the rank of corporal. He remained with the Army Reserves until Nov. 7, 1959.

A job relocation brought him to central Pennsylvania in the early 60s where he and his wife raised their five children. He was employed in the trucking industry and retired from ABF Trucking, Carlisle in 1995.

He was a 50 year member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Selinsgrove where he volunteered with many activities and grounds maintenance. In retirement he was a very active member of Silver Sneakers, Shamokin Dam.

John enjoyed following NASCAR, watching college and NFL football, and was a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. He was a faithful attendee of his grandchildren’s sporting events.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, John Jr. and Judy Fatchaline, of Selinsgrove, Michael Fatchaline, of Lansdale, and Jeffrey Fatchaline, of Boston, Mass.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Liv Bowden, of Westminster, Colo., and Patricia Fatchaline-Derrera and husband, Rob, of Aurora, Colo.; three grandchildren, Nicole, Tiffany and Travis Fatchaline.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Maurice Fatchaline, and one sister, Hazel Profeto.

Friends and family may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Pius X Catholic Church, 112 Fairview Drive, Selinsgrove, where the funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 with Father Michael Laicha as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, 112 Fairview Drive, Selinsgrove, PA 17870.
