Lake R. Miller, 88, Milton

— MILTON — Lake R. Miller, 88, formerly of Milton, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014. He was a patient of the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.

Lake was drafted into the Army having just graduated from high school and served in numerous locations in Europe. He was promoted to First Sergeant and was honored to be in the same company with John Fitzgerald Kennedy, our late president. One of the most notorious places he served was at the death camp of Auschwitz, in Nazi Germany. The remainder of his tour of duty was carried out in Japan.

After returning home he studied at Penn State University as well as Bloomsburg University. He took positions at various companies such as a bookkeeper at Broadway Hardware in Milton and the Pennsylvania Railroad, and PennDOT for a short time (Lake received numerous awards while he was with that company, and the commission, for his never ending loyalty and service). He took an interest in the Fort Augusta Museum in Sunbury where he then welcomed a position as manager and tour guide at numerous sites. He supported Warrior Run Church and Sodom Schoolhouse in Milton. He was also employed at Cornwell Furnace in Lebanon. His last position of employment was with the Priestley House in Northumberland, from which he retired.

Lake was an avid reader who enjoyed books on history and architecture. He enjoyed music and attended concerts of many types. Plays of sorts also held his interest. He was jovial, good natured and enjoyed the company of friends, often dining at his favorite restaurant, the Olive Garden, with them.

One of his greatest interests was animals. Each day you would find him caring for his two beloved cats, Marco and Kimba, who would give him such pleasure and relaxation.

A private memoriam will be held for him at a later date.

For those who would like to remember Lake and his love of animals, please contribute a donation to Far Point Animal Rescue, 1105 Red Hill Road, Port Trevorton, PA 17864. We are sure this would please him.

Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
