Robert D. “Bob” Lenig, 80, Danville

— DANVILLE — Robert D. “Bob” Lenig, 80, of Danville, made his journey to Heaven on Jan. 5, 2014.

He was born May 26, 1933, in Upper Augusta Township, Northumberland County, to the late Victor P.S. and Jennie C. (Potts) Lenig,

Bob graduated from Northumberland High School in 1952. He entered the Navy from high school and served in Norfolk, Va., and aboard the aircraft carrier USS Tarawa CVS 40 until his discharge in 1956.. While in the Navy he achieved the rank of Teleman 2nd Class. On May 30, 1954, he married Coleen B. Jenkins at the Methodist Church on the Park in Northumberland.

After attending Susquehanna University, he worked in sales and retired from TRW, Inc., in Danville as human relations manager in 1989.

He was a life member of the Danville American Legion Post 40, AARP, Masons Mahoning Lodge 224, a life member and past president and founding member of the Susquehanna Personnel Management Association, a life member and past president of Tri County Personnel Association, and a member of St. James Ridgeville United Church of Christ, Danville.

He enjoyed traveling with Coleen to south Texas during the winter and did woodworking as a hobby. Bob was a long time volunteer in the ICU at the Geisinger Medical Center and volunteered for the American Cancer Society as a driver for cancer patients.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Coleen on Feb. 22, 2008; three sisters, Grace Bastian, Lucille Sponseller, and Phyllis Bressler; and two brothers, Neal and John Lenig. Bob was the last member of his immediate family.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews and close friends. Most especially Bob wants to remember nieces, Lenna Volz, of Mifflinburg and Helen Martin, of Northumberland; nephew, Craig Lenig, of Lewisburg; and close friends, Jean Hagenbuch, Claire Mitros, and Charlotte Stetler, all of Danville.

Bob was the nicest guy EVER and was always there for anyone who needed him in any situation, whether he knew them or not. He forever had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.

Heaven will welcome him with open arms! Now there will be one great angel watching over us all.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James United Church of Christ, Ridgeville, 2507 Bloom Road, Danville with Pastor Rick Shearer officiating.

The family will receive friends at a luncheon immediately following the celebration service in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bob’s Church, St. James U.C.C., Ridgeville, 2507 Bloom Road, Danville, PA 17821, or Maria Hall, 1 Maria Hall Drive, Danville, PA 17821, where Bob received amazing care.
