Phyllis E. Snyder, 91, Northumberland

— NORTHUMBERLAND — Phyllis Ellen Snyder, 91 of Northumberland, concluded her journey in this life on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Nottingham Village, her home away from home for the last nine years.

Born in Sunbury on July 26, 1922, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Wolfe) Guinn. She was a 1942 graduate of Sunbury High School.

Phyllis was the ideal homemaker, loving wife of Jim, devoted mother of Suellen Bordner and her husband, Bill, and Jamie Huntley and her husband, Jim. Her grandchildren, Jim and Miaya Huntley, Jill and Robert Taylor, Jason and Andrea Huntley, Jessica Huntley and Traci Bordner and her companion, Ryan Bingaman, were her pride and joy, as were her great-grandchildren, Rachel Huntley, Hunter and Brayden Bingaman and Tate and Robeson Taylor.

Phyllis was a very active member of the community. During her lifetime, she was a member of the Northumberland Women’s Civic Club and the American Legion bowling team, an American Red Cross volunteer, a Brownie leader, a Meals on Wheels volunteer, a member of SUN Home Health Auxiliary and a Sunday school teacher at the Northumberland First Presbyterian Church. She was an amazing bridge player, belonging to a variety of bridge clubs over the years. She is surely sitting at the bridge table now playing bridge with her great friends, Grace, Dot, Birdie, Lydia, Nancy, Ethel and Betty.

Along with playing bridge, Phyllis enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, baking and spending time with her family. She was an enthusiastic Penn State football fan! And, she also loved to travel and visited many destinations around the globe.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James C. Snyder; two sisters, Anne Kreis and Ruth Guinn; two brothers, George and Shuman Guinn; and one stepgrandson. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a sister, Myrtle Clugston, and many nieces and nephews along with a stepgrandaughter and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Phyllis’ family would like to thank everyone at Nottingham Village for the love, care and respect they gave her over the last nine years.

Gifts in Phyllis’ memory may be made to Camp Victory, P.O. Box 810, Millville, PA 17846.

At Phyllis’ request, there will be no viewing or visitation. Private burial will take place in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

The family is being assisted with arrangements by the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland.
