WINFIELD — The Rev. Vitolds Gobins, 86, of Winfield, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
He was born in Sausneja, Latvia, and immigrated to the United States in 1949.
The Rev. Gobins attended the University of Erlangen in Germany and earned a bachelor of divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Columbia, S.C. Ordained in 1953, the Rev. Gobins served the parishes of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Andrews, N.C.; Zion Lutheran Church, Trevorton; St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gowen City; St. Peter Lutheran Church, West Cameron; St. John Lutheran Church, Snydertown; and United Lutheran Church, Sunbury.
His wife of almost 60 years, Milena Gobins, passed away in February.
He is survived by his son, Andrew Gobins, of Alpharetta, Ga., and his daughter and son-in-law, Marina and Jim Walchli, of Albany, Ohio.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Lutheran Church, 167 Seven Point Road, Sunbury, followed by a memorial service at 11.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the building fund of United Lutheran Church, or if desired, to a charity of the contributor’s choosing.
Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
