MILTON — Ralph D. Burns Jr., 70, of Center Street, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013, at his home.
He was born Aug. 3, 1942, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Ralph D. Sr. and Melva (Waughen) Burns. On Sept. 9, 1967, he married the former Karen L. Mabus, who survives.
Ralph was a 1960 graduate of Milton High School.
He was employed by the Milton Shoe factory and Pennsylvania Gas & Water Co., retiring after 35 years. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard 109th Infantry for seven years.
Ralph was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Milton, where he served as choir director, youth adviser for more than 20 years and held many other offices. He also was a member of the Pioneer Hunting Club, Shinglehouse.
He coached Milton Little League for more than 30 years and served on the executive board. Ralph was a longtime referee of Panther Cubs and served on the group’s board. He enjoyed softball when he was younger, fishing, crossword puzzles, NASCAR and taking his grandsons hunting. When he gave up hunting, he hunted with his video camera. He also enjoyed going to car shows with his ’69 Roadrunner.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Lori Purcell and Shawna and Bryan Klinfelter, all of Milton; one son and daughter-in-law, Correy and Tamera Burns, of Danville; three grandsons, Kevin Nickles and his wife, Melissa, of Montandon, Nicolas Purcell, of Milton, and Kyle Burns, of Danville; four great-granddaughters, McKenzie McBride and Kiera, Reagan and Logan Nickles, all of Montandon; one brother, William Burns, of Fort Worth, Texas; and one sister, Patricia Burns, of West Milton.
He was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Eric Burns.
Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
