Theresa A. (Stretansky) Wadas, 68, Nanticoke

— NANTICOKE — Theresa A. (Stretansky) Wadas, 68, of Nanticoke, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born Feb. 23, 1946, in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Mildred (Ondek) Stretansky.

Theresa attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School and was a graduate of Nanticoke High School. She earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from College Misericordia and the University of Scranton, respectively.

Theresa was employed by the Greater Nanticoke Area School District where she taught elementary education, grades one through three, for 32 years. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Greater Nanticoke Area Education Association.

She enjoyed traveling and spending time at the ocean. Theresa also enjoyed reading and solving crossword puzzles. However, the activity which gave her the greatest joy was creating meaningful relationships with all she met.

She is survived by her husband, Thad, of Nanticoke; one son, Dr. Thad Wadas, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one brother and sister-in-law, Cyril and Leona Stretansky, of Selinsgrove; cousins; nieces; and nephews.

Theresa’s family would especially like to thank Dr. Karen Korzick, Dr. Jon Olenginski, Dr. Elie Ghanem, and all who treated her with compassion and dignity throughout her illness.

Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, with a Vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at St. Faustina’s Parish, Holy Trinity Church, 520 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke, followed by a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Nanticoke.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Faustina Parish, 520 S. Hanover St.,Nanticoke, PA 18634, the Mill Memorial Library, East Main Street, Nanticoke, PA 18634; or to the Sisters of St. Cyril and Methodius, Danville, PA 17821.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home Inc., Nanticoke.
