Rosalie F. Roush, 74, Mifflinburg

MIFFLINBURG — Rosalie Faye Roush, 74, of 33 Laurel St., entered into eternal rest at 7:22 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at her home.

She was born April 8, 1938, in Danville, the daughter of the late Harold Robert and Kathryn Violet (Bailey) Kessler. On Sept. 21, 1957, she married Joseph A. McElroy III, a U.S. Marine Corps captain, who preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1996. She later remarried and was widowed.

Rosalie attended Middleburg schools and graduated from Selinsgrove High School, Class of 1956.

She was a homemaker most of her life.

Rosalie was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She regularly attended all charge-wide services, served on the pastor-parish relations committee and served on the committee for the new Buffalo Valley United Methodist Church, in which her funeral will be the first service of the newly formed congregation. She attended the ladies Bible study group and was of great encouragement and inspiration to people of all four churches in the charge with her strong faith in Jesus Christ.

Rosalie enjoyed picnics, taking rides in the mountains, writing and sharing her poems, Penn State football, Sunday dinners with family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She recently said of her great-grandchildren, “They give me the will to fight this cancer.”

Surviving are one son, Joseph A. McElroy IV, of Mifflinburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn A. and Bret Umbel, of Mifflinburg, and Bethany L. McElroy and James Brooking, of Burlington, Vt.; five grandchildren, Joseph A. McElroy V, Jordan P. McElroy, Bret Michael Umbel, Daniel Umbel, husband of Erica, and Emilee Kurtz, wife of Andy; three great-grandchildren, Sydney Grace Umbel, Lincoln and Bayleigh Kurtz; and three brothers and two sisters-in-laws, Robert and Deanna Kessler, of Fredericksburg, Va., Vernon and Cynthia Mull, of Foster City, Calif., and David Mull, of Middleburg.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother.

Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 10 to noon Saturday at Buffalo Valley United Methodist Church, the former Buffalo Crossroads Elementary School at 954 Johnson Mill Road, Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at noon with the Rev. Daniel H. Hicks officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rosalie’s memory may be sent to the Buffalo Valley United Methodist Church, c/o Treasurer Jeff McClintock, 46 Crescent Drive, Mifflinburg, PA 17844.
