SUNBURY — Robert Lamar Persing, 74, of 141 Ross Lane, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after admission on Dec. 30 and a courageous nine-month battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 1, 1938, in Trevorton, a son of the late Fred Persing and Elsie (George) Persing Houser. On Aug. 18, 1962, at Chestnut Street United Methodist Church, Shamokin, he married the former Sarah Ann Morris, who preceded him in death on Jan. 5, 2012.
He attended Shamokin High School and was a veteran of the Army.
Robert was employed as an electrician at Celotex, Sunbury.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Shamokin, Loyal Order of Moose, Danville, a life member of the Rescue Fire Company, Sunbury, the American Legion, Sunbury, U.S. Bowling Congress, Coon Hunter’s Club, Sunbury, the AARP and NRA.
Robert is survived by two daughters, Susan and Ronald Herman, of Sunbury, and Carol Cary, of Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren, Andrew Ballantine, Kyle Herman and wife Lindsey, Chelsa Herman and Brandon Cary; one great-grandson, Adam Ballantine; one sister, Evelyn Rhodes, of Catawissa; and one sister-in-law, Margaret “Peggy” Morris, of Shamokin.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Merlin, Kenneth and Leroy Persing.
A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Farrow Funeral Home, 240 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Zack Hopple officiating.
Burial will be in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
