Grace A. McLaughlin, 89, New Columbia

NEW COLUMBIA — Grace A. McLaughlin, 89, of New Columbia, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at SUN Home Hospice Care Center, Sunbury.

She was born March 11, 1923, in Muncy, a daughter of the late Harry and Edna (Burns) Hans. She married James M. McLaughlin, and they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on Jan. 30. James, 95, survives and lives at their home in New Columbia.

Grace retired from Chef Boy-Ar-Dee in 1979 after 22 years of service.

She attended the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Lewisburg, and faithfully read her Bible.

In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, spending time in her flower and vegetable gardens, canning fruits and vegetables for the winter months, working in the kitchen baking cookies and pies to share with family and friends, and donating to community organizations that help individuals and families improve their daily lives.

Grace and James traveled throughout the United States visiting historical sites and national parks and went on a cruise to the Bahamas.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy A. and Nelson M. Styers, of West Milton, and Patricia G. and Carl E. Blair, of Watsontown; three sons and two daughters-in-law, James E. McLaughlin, of Watsontown, Barry W. and Kathy A. McLaughlin, of Mifflinburg, and Rocky L. and Linda L. McLaughlin, of New Columbia; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Polly Hans, of Turbotville; one sister and brother-in-law, Ione and Paul Grow, of Milton; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Grace was predeceased by one daughter, Iris McLaughlin; one daughter-in-law, Peggy McLaughlin; five brothers, Roger, Harry, Harvey, Elwood and Frank “Freeman” Hans; and four sisters, Erma McLaughlin, Catherine Hans, Alma Seibert and Daisy Snyder.

Family and friends are invited to call from 11 to noon Monday at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 137 Supplee Mill Road, Lewisburg, where the funeral will be conducted at  noon with her grandson, the Rev. Patrick J. Styers, officiating.

Burial will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville.

The family will provide flowers and suggests contributions in Grace’s memory be made to SUN Home Health Hospice, 61 Duke Street, P.O. Box 232, Northumberland, PA 17857-0232, or Central Susquehanna Opportunities Inc. Community Action Agency, dedicated to help low-income individuals and families, 2 E. Arch St., Shamokin, PA 17872.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main St., Watsontown.
