SELINSGROVE — Mary E. Newman, 96, of Selinsgrove and also of Stuart, Fla., passed away at 3:25 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born on July 18, 1916, in Selinsgrove, a daughter of the late Charles H. and Katie B. (Riegel) Snyder. On Nov. 7, 1946, she married Harvey E. Newman who preceded her in death on April 18, 1959.
Mary was a 1932 graduate of the Freeburg Academy.
After high school she worked in National Defense during WW II.
She was licensed to practice and teach cosmetology and she owned and operated Mary’s Beauty Salon in Selinsgrove.
She retired from the Selinsgrove Center in 1982.
She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Selinsgrove, she enjoyed traveling, but the main focus of her life was her family and close friends.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Barry A. and Marilyn K. Newman, of Selinsgrove; two daughters, Connie D’Antonio, of Stuart, Fla. and Paula J. Hunt, of Loxahatchee, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death in addition to her husband by four brothers, John J., George R. Sr., Art and William “Jim” Snyder; and three sisters, Bessie Shaffer, Helen “Sis” Aucker and Marguerite Snyder.
At her request there will be no viewing.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, with the Rev. James Fladland officiating.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Selinsgrove.
