Mildred A. Kuhns, 90, Penns Creek

— PENNS CREEK — Mildred A. Kuhns, 90, of Penns Creek, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

She was born May 3, 1922, in Franklin Township, Snyder County, a daughter of the late Cloyd E. and Mabel M. (Walter) Shambach. On June 27, 1936, she married David D. Kuhns who preceded her in death in 1982.

Mildred attended Hassinger school in rural Middleburg.

She had been employed by the Laurelton and Selinsgrove Centers.

She was a life member of Zion United Methodist Church, Middleburg and its Cheerful Givers Sunday school class and its Willing Workers.

Mildred enjoyed watching birds and wild life in their natural habitat. She had the Midas touch when it came to gardening and was known for her flowers surrounding her house. She was a terrific cook and baker and loved to share it was others. Crocheting, reading and listening to gospel music were also some of Mildred’s enjoyments but her main focus was her family and their welfare.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Julia and Galen Moyer, of Beavertown and Marilyn and Herbert Kratzer, of Morgantown; one son, Richard “Dick” Kuhns, of Globe Mills; three grandchildren, Cindy Moyer, Marcia and husband Mike Hubbert, and Tim Moyer; five great-grandchildren, Adam Sauers and companion, Brandi Sterner, Heidi Sauers and companion, Dustin Radel, Daniel, Matthew and Bethany Moyer; stepgreat-grandchildren, Shawn and Annette Hubbert and Eric and Denise Hubbert; one great-great-grandson, Noah Radel; one stepgreat-great-granddaughter, Julia Hubbert; one sister, Jacqueline Hackenberg, of Middleburg; and one brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Romaine Shambach, of Middleburg.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Elizabeth and David Moyer; one great-grandson, Jeremy Moyer; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Nevin and Lulu Shambach and Donald and Jean Shambach; and one brother-in-law, Nester Hackenberg.

Friends and family will be received from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 11:30 with the Rev. Carvel K. May officiating.

Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Middleburg.
