LEWISBURG — Faylene M. Groover, 90, formerly of 103 Willowbrook Blvd., went home to be with her Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning, April 9, 2013, at Riverview Manor. She was a longtime resident of Lewisburg and previously lived in Freeburg, Watsontown and Mifflinburg.
A native of Union County, she was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late H. Gilbert and Anna (Fisher) Stahl. In 1938, she married R. Leroy Groover, who preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1985.
Faylene attended school in Freeburg and was a graduate of Lewisburg High School.
She was employed as a regional manager with Sarah Coventry Inc. for 25 years. She was a Welcome Wagon hostess, then was self-employed owning her own business and later working for Profiles of Pennsylvania.
Faylene was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, was an active member and past president of the Mifflinburg Civic Club, was a member of the Lewisburg Women’s Club, was past president of the Union County Federation of Women’s Club, was a member of both the Milton and Lewisburg auxiliaries of Evangelical Community Hospital and was a member of the Packwood House Museum.
She enjoyed working as a volunteer for Evangelical Community Hospital and for her church. She traveled extensively and enjoyed spending time with her family and the friends she accumulated over a lifetime of associations.
Faylene is survived by her two treasured daughters, Cheryl A. Bowersox and her husband, Robert, and Patricia R. Murray-Groover, all of Lewisburg; five grandchildren, Renee Steese and Cara Balboni, of Southwick, Mass., Ronald Steese and Jennie Rawski, of Boxborough, Mass., Michael Steese and Tricia Dreese, of Lewisburg, Tracey and Kenny Hoffman, of Northumberland, and Beth and Mark Brownson, of Ashland; eight great-grandchildren, Sarah Steese, Stein Steese, Katelinn Gillespie, Nathan Gillespie, Maggie, Michaela, Asher and Charlee Lynn Hoffman; nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Pearl J. Fisher.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Brown; one brother, Marvin G. Stahl; and one niece, Cindy Guyer.
Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1050 Buffalo Road, Lewisburg, followed by a life celebration at 11:30 with her pastor, the Rev. Paula Gustafson, officiating.
Burial will follow in Lewisburg Cemetery.
