Charles J. Brouse, 80, Middleburg

MIDDLEBURG — Charles Junior Brouse, 80, of Troxelville Road, passed away on Saturday evening, June 29, 2013, at the Columbia-Montour Home Hospice, Danville.

He was born July 26, 1932, in rural Beavertown, a son of the late Charles H. and Helen (Hendricks) Brouse. On Aug. 27, 1955, he married the former Helen M. Heiser, who survives.

Charles was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star.

He attended Beaver Vocational High School, Beaver Springs.

His first employment was with Standard Steel in Burnham, and later, he worked for Asphlundh Tree Service. Then, for 22 years, he was an owner-operator for Interstate Truck Service, Cleveland, Ohio.

After his retirement, he was employed at the Thomas farms in Beavertown and Susquehanna Valley RV, Selinsgrove.

He was of the United Methodist faith.

He was a life member of the Penns Creek Volunteer Fire Company and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6631, Selinsgrove, and American Legion Post 957, New Berlin.

Charles was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his family and enjoyed family get-togethers.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 57 years, are one daughter and son-in-law, Karin M. and Sherman Lloyd Jr., of Lewisburg; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Albert C. Brouse and his companion, Pam Hoover, of Richfield, Wayne C. and Deb Brouse, of Selinsgrove, and David W. and Judith Brouse, of Beavertown; 13 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Brouse, of Beavertown; and five sisters, Gladys Camp, of Troxelville, Sarah Reich, of Beaver Springs, Carrie Knepp, of Middleburg, Beatrice Benfer, of Albion, N.Y., and Betty Houtz, of Beavertown.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Valerie Lloyd; one sister, Nancy Keister; and one brother, Lewis Brouse.

Friends and family will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Darvin Reich officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Penns Creek Union Cemetery.
