William E. Shadle, 85, Millersburg

— MILLERSBURG — William E. Shadle, 85, of 2371 Shippen Dam Road, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at his home.

He was born in Wiconisco, the son of the late Irvin and Alda Snyder Shadle. He was married for 61 years to the former Blanche Boyer, who survives.

Bill was a graduate of Wiconisco High School, a graduate of Shippensburg College and took classes at Bucknell, Rutgers and Penn State. He served in the Army and was a veteran of World War II.

He was a retired science teacher from Mahanoy Joint and Line Mountain high schools.

Bill was a member of David’s Community Bible Church, Killinger, where he was former church treasurer, consistory member and Sunday school teacher. He was a 50-year member of Susquehanna Lodge 364, Free & Accepted Masons, and a member of Gratz Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2385.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Beverly Shadle, of Harrisburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Douglas and Sharon Shadle, of Trevorton, and Craig Shadle, of Valley Forge; four grandchildren and spouses, Brooke, Andrew and Maggie, Edward and Brittney and Victoria; two great-granddaughters, Adrianna and Aaliyah; one sister, Corrine Dietrich (Holden); and a second daughter to Bill, Arloa Day.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcella Witmer-Hand and Marilyn Dietrich.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, followed by funeral at 10:30, at David’s Community Bible Church, Killinger.

Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
