— RICHFIELD — Melba M. Hoffman, 86, formerly of Richfield, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 5:20 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at the Manor at Penn Village Selinsgrove.

She was born April 15, 1927, in rural Port Trevorton, a daughter of the late Norman S. Sr. and Barbara E. (Updegrove) Markley. On Jan. 29, 1949, she married Wayne H. Hoffman, who preceded her in death on March 11, 1991.

Melba was a 1945 graduate of Selinsgrove High School. Following high school, she worked at Westinghouse in Sunbury until 1949. Later she assisted her husband as a clerk in his auctioneering service. The couple also operated the Freeburg Auction from 1967 to 1983. At the auction, Melba will be remembered for her home-baked pies.

She was preceded in death by twin sons in infancy, Dennis and Norman; two sons-in-law, Donald Brouse and Arden Landis Sr.; one sister, Mildred Henninger; and one brother, Norman S. Markley Jr.

At Melba’s request, there will be no viewing. A private burial will be held in the Richfield Union Cemetery, followed by a celebration of Melba’s life at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Richfield Mennonite Church with Pastor Jerry O’Connell officiating.
