— McEWENSVILLE — Russell M. Deiter, 86, of Mill Street, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Watsontown Health and Rehab.

 Born April 2, 1927, in Hubley Twp., he was a son of the late Morris and Minnie (Smeltz) Deiter.  On April 10, 1948, he married the former Arlene J. Falck, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage together until her death Feb. 21, 2010.

Russell retired from R.A. Marker and Son, in Lewistown after working there for more than  30 years as a crane operator.

He was an Army veteran and served in the Philippines where he worked as a baker.

 Russell was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Watsontown, and a member of the Pennsylvania Deitsch Ferammling, a Pennsylvania Dutch heritage organization.  

He was an avid woodworker.  He was well known for his oak-crafted porch swings which grace many homes  in the tri-county area.

 Surviving is one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Holly Deiter, of Muncy; four daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Michael Flanigan, of Odenton, Md., Susan and Clair Yeagle, of Watsontown, Cheryl and James Swartz, of Lewisburg, and Crystal and Donald Foust, of Watsontown; five grandchildren, Terry, Michele, Aaron, Andrea, and Morgan; four great-grandchildren, Josh, Amber, Logan, and Austin; two stepgrandchildren, Valerie and Jason; and five stepgreat-grandchildren, Vanessa, Kelsey, Patrick, Macy, and Jayda.

 Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife, are three sisters, Sarah Boyer, Elva Piefer, and Anna Landis; and one brother, Allen Deiter.

 Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 Main Street, Watsontown, where the funeral will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James H. Fladland, his pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory be made to the church.

 Arrangements have been entrusted to Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main St., Watsontown.
