NORTHUMBERLAND — Edgar “Ed” Winegartner, 86, of Northumberland, passed away peacefully in his sleep Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2013, at Nottingham Nursing Center, Northumberland.
Ed was born Jan. 28, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio.
He served in the Navy and subsequently was a graduate of Ohio State University.
Ed spent over 30 years as an engineer with Exxon in Baytown, Texas where his major focus was research. He received many patents and was a Fellow in the Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Ed Winegartner will be remembered by those who knew him as an outgoing, friendly and generous man who had a servant’s heart. During the 60s and 70s, he was involved in helping to create low-cost housing in Baytown.
He was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he served on council and numerous committees. After his move to Pennsylvania in the late 1990’s, he remained active in his new community through Meals on Wheels and other volunteer endeavors.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Kieffer Winegartner, of Northumberland; two daughters and one son-in-law, Penny Winegartner, of Pearland, Texas, and Becky and Mark Thiele, of Snohomish, Wash.; four stepchildren and their spouses, Janet and Wayne Latchford, Paul and Holly Kieffer, John and Jamie Kieffer, and Tim and Nick Kieffer; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grand children.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Lobenstein Winegartner; a baby son; one sister, Jean; and his parents.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
