Marvin B. Lauver, 84, York

YORK — Marvin B. “Major” Lauver, 84, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Sunbury Community Hospital.

Marvin was born on March 25, 1929, in Freeburg, a son of the late Clarence E. and Blanche C. (Walter) Lauver.

Marvin graduated from Freeburg High School in 1947 and was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean War.

After returning home from the service, he relocated to York,  and operated his own insurance business as an independent insurance agent. He sold his insurance business and then worked for the Mutual Inspection Bureau of Harrisburg.

In 1984 Marvin and James Hare, also of York, purchased “Ulrich’s Seafood Market” and later renamed the business “Little Harbor Seafood.” He was co-owner/operator of the business until it was sold in 2008.

After the sale of the seafood market Marvin retired to York where he was a member of the Quickel’s Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir. He also sang in the York Barber shop Chorus.

He was a member of the Hawk’s Club, Pleasureville and the National Rifle Association. He was also president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Mount Wolf and Manchester, Pa.

Marvin was active in politics, and enjoyed carpentry, painting, and sketching.

Marvin is survived by one sister Christy Weirick, of Middleburg; friend of the family James Hare, of York; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Lauver, of Lewisburg, and Mary Lauver, of Mount Pleasant Mills; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded by two sisters Dorothy Troup and her husband Guy and Evelyn Longacre; and two brothers, Edwin Lauver, and Stillwell Lauver; and one brother-in-law; Galen Weirick.

Friends will be received by the family on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc. 9366 Rt. 35, Mount Pleasant Mills, and again on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Church St, Freeburg. Officiating will be Rev. Timothy Bingman.

Burial with full military rites accorded by the American Legion Victory Post 25 and the Veterans of Foreign War Post 6631 of Selinsgrove will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Freeburg.
