WATSONTOWN — Elaine Frances (Sullivan) Emery, 78, of Watsontown, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012.
She was born in Springfield, Mass., on Jan. 8, 1934, the daughter of the late James Francis and Dolores (Vadnais) Sullivan, and she was married to James Edward Emery, who preceded her on May 11, 1980.
Surviving are four children, Anmarie Shehata, Kathleen Emery and Timothy Emery, all of Watsontown, and Thomas Emery, of Wilbraham, Mass.; two grandchildren, Melissa (Emery) Showalter and Christian Emery; and three great-grandchildren, James Showalter, Nathan and Summer Mull.
She was a dedicated social worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Social Services as a program development specialist and volunteered with the Sandwich, Mass., Council on Aging after retiring.
The passion of her life was serving others, especially those less fortunate. She co-founded a homeless shelter in 1987 in Halifax, Mass.
She loved her family and the ocean. Another passion of hers was reading.
