— NORTHUMBERLAND — Florence O. Wetzel, 83, formerly of Water Street, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

She was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Elmira, N.Y., the daughter of the late Frederick and Myrtie (Bell) Owens. On Sept. 10, 1950, she married Bruce R. Wetzel Sr., who preceded her in death on March 12, 1989.

Florence was a 1947 graduate of Elmira Southside High School.

For many years, Florence was employed as a clerk at the Priestley-Forsyth Memorial Library, Northumberland.

She was a very kind hearted animal lover who often took in stray animals, giving them shelter and taking them for veterinarian appointments. She took pride in donating to animal care centers and shelters.

She is survived by one daughter, Laura D. Smith, and one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce R. and Cindy M. Wetzel, all of Sunbury; two grandchildren, Lenore M. Wetzel and Jeremy R. Wetzel Sr.; and two great-grandchildren, Lydia K. Cleary and Jeremy R. Wetzel Jr.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Scott E. Smith.

Services will be private with the Rev. Richard L. Kellett officiating.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland.
