SELINSGROVE — Grace Alvesta Heim, 100, of The Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove and a former resident of the Emeritus at Grayson View, and Mount Pleasant Mills, entered into rest on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Grace was born Jan. 22, 1913, in Mount Pleasant Mills, a daughter of the late Herbert and Edith (Peters) Heim.
She was a 1931 graduate of Freeburg High School.
Grace was employed with local silk mills and shirt factories and was a waitress. She retired after 25 years of employment from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant Mills and was a former Sunday School teacher. She also gave a monetary gift towards the publication of the Book of History of Fremont.
Grace enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad, and sponsored many trips with the Catawissa bus company. She also enjoyed reading and word finds.
She is survived by her niece, Ruth Ann Runkle and her husband, Walter Sr., of Orlando, Fla.; great-nieces and nephews, Cyril Runkle and his wife, Debra, of Selinsgrove, Dana Runkle Diamond, of Lake Mary, Fla., Gwendolyn (Runkle) Midgett and her husband, Robert, of Huntersville, N.C., and Walter D. Runkle II, of Orlando, Fla.; one great-great-niece, Jessie D. Runkle, of Selinsgrove; one great-great-nephew, Brandon Midgett, of Huntersville, N.C.; and cousins and extended family.
She was preceded by one sister, Alma Teats, and one brother, Leroy Heim.
Friends and family are invited to a viewing from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Friday at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills, followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. in St. John’s Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills, with her second cousin, the Rev. Donald Ely officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in loving memory of Grace to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
