Almeda I. Crites, 98, Northumberland

— NORTHUMBERLAND — Almeda I. Crites, 98, of Northumberland, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at the Skilled Nursing Unit at Sunbury Community Hospital.

She was born July 23, 1914, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Charles and Virgie (Maury) Snyder. In 1935, she married Frank Harold Crites, who preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1960.

Almeda was a 1932 graduate of Sunbury High School.

She was employed by HD Boob, Nite Kraft, Montgomery Ward and in 1961 went to work for the Shikellamy School District as a cafeteria worker and later as a secretary in the business office. She was such a stickler for financing and cleanliness that her co-workers nicknamed her “Felix” from “The Odd Couple.”

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sunbury.

Almeda was an avid bowler and a faithful fan of her grandchildren’s events. She watched bowling, billiards, golf, baseball and game shows from her rocker. One of her biggest enjoyments was drinking her morning coffee while on her backyard swing.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Tom Gass, of Danville, and Dolores and Len Zboray, of Northumberland; four grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Annette McManigle, of Stephens City, Va., Betsy and Steve Maynard, of Martinsville, W.Va., Mike Zboray, of Frisco, Colo., and Lindsay and Brian Marcotte, of Suffield, Conn.; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Edythe and Alice Snyder.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Heintzelman; three brothers, James, Eugene and Theron Snyder; and one sister-in-law, Myrtle Wynn.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11 with her pastor, the Rev. Richard Fangmann, officiating.

Burial will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
