Ruth. K. Moser, 96, Lewisburg

LEWISBURG — Ruth. K. Moser, 96, a former resident of McEwensville, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg, where she had been living since 2010. She formerly had lived at River View Manor since October 2006.

She was born July 24, 1917, in Lewis Township, Northumberland County, a daughter of the late William O. and Blanche (Bryson) Kramm. On July 24, 1939, she married Harold T. Moser in St. John’s United Church of Christ in McEwensville. They celebrated 68 years of marriage before his death on Aug. 10, 2007.

She was a 1935 graduate of Turbotville High School and attended the Bloomsburg State Teachers College.

Ruth taught elementary school for 43 years, retiring in June 1982 from the Warrior Run School District. She began teaching in 1937 at the McEwensville school, filling a position from which her mother, Blanche, resigned so that Ruth could have the job. She and her mother both later moved to the former Eighth Street School in Watsontown until it was destroyed by a fire. Ruth then spent her remaining teaching years at the Watsontown Elementary School.

She was very actively involved with the Montgomery House Library, McEwensville, a charter and active member of the Warrior Run Fort Freeland Heritage Society, a member of the McEwensville Garden Club and a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, McEwensville. She was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

Ruth and her husband were proud to have played a large role in the construction of the M&F Sports Complex during the 1980s. Today, it is the Northumberland County Recreation Complex and is dedicated to the memory of their son, Tom.

Surviving are two grandchildren and their spouses, Todd P. and Edie A. Moser and Melissa L. and Kieran V. Pelletier, all of Turbotville; four great-grandchildren, Alexa E. Moser, Ryan M., Connor T. and Emily M. Pelletier; one sister, Jane Shuman, of Watsontown: one sister-in-law, Gladys Durlin, of Turbotville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her only son, Thomas L. Moser, on Oct. 25, 1998.

Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. A. Bruce Amme officiating.

Burial will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in her memory be made to either the Montgomery House Library, P.O. Box 5, McEwensville, PA 17749, or to the Warrior Run Fort Freeland Heritage Society at WRFFHS, P.O. Box 26, Turbotville, PA 17772.
