BLOOMSBURG — Richard A. Hammer, 76, of East Twelfth Street, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was a resident of his Twelfth Street home for more than 10 years.
Richard was born Friday, July 26, 1935, in Toledo, Ohio, a son of the late Robert and Racheal (Marlett) Hammer.
As a master electrician, Richard was employed by Raytheon and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local No. 8 of Lima Ohio. He worked at installing the power supply lines for the Alaska Pipeline.
Richard was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He participated in numerous fishing tournaments, particularly in Michigan. He was a member of the Columbia County Democratic Committee and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 4255 of Scottsboro, Ala.
Richard’s passing ends a marriage of 25 years to Lois (Honabach) Hammer, to whom he was married Dec. 13, 1986. Additional survivors include four children, Laura Hammer, of Toledo, Lisa Koster and husband Chris, of Clifton, Mich., Richard Hammer and wife Tammy, of Millbury Ohio, and Michelle Hammer, of Toledo; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Mykyla, Christopher, Connor, Chelsea, Brianna, Dylan and Jacob; a godson, Michael Morris, of Florida; three step-children, Cindy Stephens, of Bloomsburg, Chris Baumer and wife Melissa, of Berwick, and Robert Baumer, of Bloomsburg; also three siblings, Ruthann Boschard, of Florida, Rita Lowe and husband James, of Michigan, and Robert Hammer and wife, Barbara, also of Michigan.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements for the Hammer family are under the care and direction of the Allen Funeral Home Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg.
