David R. Snyder, 72, Sunbury

— SUNBURY — David R. Snyder, 72, of Sunbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at his home.

He was born Sept. 30, 1941, in Danville, a son of the late C. David and E. June (Mervine) Snyder, of Catawissa. On Feb. 15, 1985, he married the former Elizabeth “Libby” Cooper, who survives.

He was a graduate of Catawissa High School, Class of 1959, and attended East Stroudsburg University. He was an Army veteran serving a tour of duty in the Republic of Korea.

David was an employee of Keystone Forging Co. in Northumberland since Jan. 3, 1967, and was still employed at the time of his death. He served as plant manager and later inside sales manager.

He was a founder of the Bent Barrel Sportsman Club, of Wellsboro, and served as its president since the founding in 1974. He was a past president of the Southside Ambulance Association and the Catawissa High School Alumni Association and a member of the Danville Elks, Catawissa American Legion and Home Association, Catawissa Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sunbury Social Club and the Shamokin Beagle Club.

David loved hunting, fishing, playing golf, Phillies and Orioles baseball, Penn State football and North Carolina basketball.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, David Raymond Snyder, of Escondido, Calif., Beth T. Russo and husband Brian, of Tracy, Calif., and  James Michael Snyder and wife Kirstie, of Temecula, Calif.; six grandchildren, Noah and Emilia Snyder, Justin and Nathan Russo and Sienna and Blake Snyder; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Mary, of Danville, and Thomas and Ginger, of Durham, N.C.; one sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis Rae and Greg Tucker, of Calabash, N.C.; sister-in-law, Barbara and Tim Steele, of Raleigh, N.C.; one uncle, John Brokenshire, of Catawissa; one aunt, Emily Reiner, of Mount Carmel; many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends; and his two beloved Irish setters, Katie and Sadie.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, in First United Methodist Church, 228 South St., Catawissa.

Internment will be at the convenience of the family in Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg.

Flowers will be provided by the family. Contributions in Dave’s memory can be made to Catawissa First United Methodist Church, Catawissa High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, Evangelical Community Hospital Hospice or Bent Barrel Sportsman Club.
