Paul O. Mitch, 97, Lewisburg

LEWISBURG — Paul O. Mitch, 97, of Lewisburg, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Riverwoods. As Paul’s final radio sign off … W3LXN going QRT!

Paul was born in Lewisburg on July 1, 1916, at the Dorman family farm and was the son of the late Lewis E. and Lizzie M. (Boney) Dorman, and was raised by Ernest and Katie Mitch from an early age.  

Paul married the late Esther M. (Biebelheimer) Mitch on Dec. 24, 1945, and they celebrated 56 years of marriage together until her death on May 4, 2002.

Paul was the second person in Union County to be drafted into the military during World War II. He served in the Army. On Aug. 28, 1941, Paul was put into active duty and served his country until he received an honorable discharge on Sept. 19, 1945. While serving, he received numerous medals including a purple heart medal, good conduct medal, distinguished unit badge, American defense service medal, European African Middle Eastern Service medal with four bronze service stars and one bronze service arrowhead. He also served in many places including Europe, Africa, Sicily, Italy and France.

Paul retired from Montgomery Ward in 1973 after working for the company for two years. After retirement he worked as a self-employed construction worker. Paul was a member of the American Legion Post 71 and he was one of the original founding members of the Milton Amateur Radio Club. Paul also enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating on the Susquehanna, an avid wood worker and an exceptional carpenter. You can look around the Valley and find many of the works of art that Paul had made over the years.

Paul is survived by three daughters, Patty L. Rollins, of Lewisburg, Faith A. Mitch, of New Columbia, and Joy L. Kerstetter; 10 grandchildren, Rebecca E. Lea, Oddis J. Rollins, Rachel E. Levine, Kurt A. Feaster, Michael S. Feaster, Melissa A. Roadarmel, Amber D. London, Ashley L. London and Zackary W. London; nine great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Lea, Sierra Rollins, Memphis Rollins, Lilabelle Rollins, Titus Rollins, Tosha Feaster, Teanna Feaster, Skyler Roadarmel and Megan Snook; three great-great-grandchildren, Shelea Feaster, Rylee Feaster and their new baby brother; one brother, Dorsey Dorman, of Middleburg; and one sister, Vada Erdley, of Mifflinburg.  

In addition to his parents and wife, Paul was preceded in death by one son, William Paul; four brothers, Romain, Luther, Charles and Gundy Dorman; and three sisters, Mary Daughenbaugh, Dorothy Haas and Sally Dingler.

Services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.  

Arrangements are being handled by The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton.
