Pauline L. Stuckey, 87, Mifflinburg

— MIFFLINBURG — Pauline Lila (Beaver) Stuckey, 87, left this life for her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, after six years of declining health. She spent her last week at home with her family.

Pauling was born Jan. 15, 1927, in Lewistown, a daughter of the late Guy S. and Mary B. (Moist) Beaver.

While she was in kindergarten her parents decided Pauling should study piano with the late Helen McKinley who spent a lifetime teaching despite physical limitations caused by polio. Pauline attended Burnham schools and graduated with honors with the class of 1944. While studying piano for 12 years she was accompanist for school and church choirs. She was active in Junior Federation of Music Club, Lewistown Chapter.

In 1948, she graduated from Juniata College with a bachelor’s degree in music education. She was offered a full scholarship to attend Eastman Conservatory of Music, but declined in order to marry. She continued her music education with coursework at Wheaton College, Illinois, Westminster Choir College and New School for Music Study in New Jersey.

Pauline and William F. Stuckey were married June 19, 1948, in Church of the Brethren, Lewistown. Pauline and Bill had been a “couple” since meeting in sixth grade. They made their first home in Illinois where Bill had finished his education at Wheaton College.

After returning to Lewistown, Pauline and Bill were both active at Calvary Bible Church. Pauline directed the adult and ladies choirs and taught a ladies Bible class for many years.

From 1958-2008, she taught private and class piano, loving each student especially the ones who practiced. She had numerous students who have gone on to music careers. She also taught Child Evangelism Fellowship classes while living in Lewistown. She was a charter member of Christian Women’s Club in Lewisburg.

The family moved to Mifflinburg in 1973 when Bill joined his family in operating the Mifflinburg IGA Supermarket. Seventeen years later they retired to Northumberland, but subsequently returned to Mifflinburg in 2006.

She is survived by her husband William of 66 years; three children, Beth and Manat Tiptanatoranin, of Neenah, Wis., Joan and Graham Rogers, of Lewisburg, and William Jr., of Northumberland; grandchildren, Julie and Michael Gaugler, of Shamokin Dam, David and Leanna Rogers, of Sunbury, Rachel and Ryan Grimm, overseasl, and Laura Stuckey, of Northumberland; great-grandchildren, Evan, Brynn and Aiden Gaugler; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law, John Gingrich, of Burnham and Jack Stuckey, of Mifflinburg.

Pauline was preceded in death by twin sisters, Margaret (Beaver) Fultz and Mae (Beaver) Gingrich; daughter-in-law, Nancy Stuckey; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Stuckey and JoAnn Stuckey; and brothers-in-law, Russell Fultz and Dick Stuckey.

Pauline and Bill were active members of Sunbury Bible Church and felt blessed by family and a multitude of friends.

Pauline was a gifted letter writer; she loved to encourage people and would often include newspaper clippings of interest to whomever she wrote. She faithfully maintained contact with family and friends far and wide on a regular basis. As a gifted musician, she successfully passed on her love of music to her children and students.

She was also known for her passion and strong discipline for praying. Her lists of people to pray for were a common sight around the house. Over her lifetime, thousands received the blessing of knowing Pauline prayed for them.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Sunbury Bible Church where the funeral will follow at 3 with Pastor James Gross officiating.
