NORTHUMBE3RLAND — Jack C. Leighow, 88, of Northumberland passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, in the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
He was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Sunbury, a son of the late Pierce and Christine (Bendt) Leighow. On April 4, 1946, he married the former Doris Shannon who survives.
Jack was a 1942 graduate of Northumberland High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp where he served as an aircraft mechanic duing World War II until his discharge in 1946. He then attended the Academy of Aeronautics, Long Island, N.Y. for two years, graduating in 1949.
In 1950, he began work as a mechanic for Capital Airlines in Washington D.C. He continued with their successor, United Airlines until his retirement in December 1986. During his employment with United he worked at both the Baltimore and Washington airports while making his home in Alexandria, Va. After his retirement, he and his wife returned to Northumberland to make their home.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Michael, of Selinsgrove, and two grandsons, Delray Leighow-Kratzer and Kyle Leighow.
In accordance with Jack’s wishes there will be no viewing. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland.
