Barbara G. Isenberg, Millersburg

— MILLERSBURG — Barbara G. Isenberg was born on Nov. 4, 1927, a daughter of the late Pearl and Donald Gardner.

She was a 1945 graduate of Howard High School and a 1949 graduate of Lock Haven State Teachers College. She enjoyed a very accomplished high school and collegiate athletic career, in basketball and field hockey.

She taught women’s health and physical education at Bellefonte High School in 1949, before moving to and teaching at Millersburg (Upper Paxton) High School from 1950-1956. She was a high school substitute teacher into the late 70s, also serving a number of stints as head girls basketball coach.

She was a long time member at Trinity United Church of Christ, Millersburg, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years, as well as being active in Cub Scouts for many years.

She was well known in the community for her baking and cooking talents, particularly for her bread, sticky buns, and for homemade pizzas supplied for the basketball teams for many years.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charlie; daughter-in-law, Elke; son, Scott; three grandchildren, Chandra, Britt, and Dustin; and one great-grandson, Rory. She is also survived by one brother, Lee “Tuff” Gardner.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Donald Gardner Jr., Theodore “Ted” Gardner, Sis Redline, Vivian Preston, Dorothy Justice, Robert Gardner, and William Gardner.

The family will receive friends on from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Friday, followed by the funeral serivce at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, Millersburg,

Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg.
