Grace P. Menges, 90, Milton

— MILTON — Grace P. Menges, 90, of County Line Road, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland, where she had been living since earlier this month.

She was born March 9, 1923, in Turbotville, a daughter of the late Edward and Alice M. (Snyder) Plotts. She married Clare L. Menges on March 17, 1944, and they celebrated 56 years of marriage before his death July 1, 2000.

Early in Grace’s life, she had worked at the Turbotville Silk Mill. After her marriage, she became a farmer’s wife and helped on the family farm most of her life.

She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Turbotville, where she had served on the altar guild and enjoyed helping with the church suppers when she was able. She was a member of Watsontown Chapter 282, Order of Eastern Star, and was a member of the former Turbotville Civic Club.

Grace enjoyed working in her garden, reading and sewing and especially loved family get-togethers at the family farm.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra A. and Jerry Smith, of Milton; one son and daughter-in-law, Scott L. and Susan Menges, of Stratford, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Plotts Jr., of Sunbury; and two sisters, Betty Kleckner, of State College, and Helen Michaels, of Lemoyne.

She was preceded in death by one son, Roger E. Menges, in 2001; one daughter, Shirley A. Wolfe, in 2012; and two grandsons, Christopher Menges, in 1983, and Eugene Wolfe, in 2008.

Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 with her pastor, the Rev. Erwin C. Roux, officiating.

Burial will follow in Turbotville Cemetery.

The family suggests contributions in her memory be made to Zion Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 277, Turbotville PA 17772.
