SUNBURY — Joseph F. Rutkowski, 84, of RR Sunbury, passed away at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was admitted on Monday. Joe lived in RR Sunbury for the past 20 years and previously lived in Shamokin.
He was born June 11, 1929, in Shamokin, a son of the late Frank and Antoinette (Firek) Rutkowski.
He attended St. Stephens Elementary School and Coal Township High School.
Joe was employed as a hotel manager in New York City until his retirement in 1974.
He was a member of St. Monica Church, Sunbury.
Joe is survived by one sister, Theresa Baker, of Harrisburg, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Anthony, Thomas, Frank, Charles, Herman, Edmund and John, and three sisters, Alma, Eleanor and Veronica.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Monica Church, 109 Market St., Sunbury, with the Rev. Fred Wangwe, AJ, as celebrant.
Burial will be held at a later date in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Coal Township.
Funeral arrangements are by the Olley-Gotlob Funeral Home, 539 Race St., Sunbury.
