Myrtle L.C. Anderson

— MILTON — Myrtle Lillian Cochran Anderson entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at the Evangelical Community Hospital following a seven month stay at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.

Myrtle was born on Aug. 18, 1920, in Altoona, the daughter of Joseph Theodore and Annie Belle (Young) Cochran. She was the ninth of 12 children.

Myrtle was a 1944 graduate of Washington Sanitarium and Hospital, Tacoma Park, Washington, DC, and a 1951 graduate of Catholic University, Washington, DC with a bachelor of science degree in nursing education. She also attended Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md. and Children’s Hospital, Washington, DC. Myrtle was a staff nurse at Providence Hospital, Beaver Falls, Pa. and instructed in their School of Nursing and served as a member of the fact finding committee to investigate starting a nursing training program at the Beaver County Community College.

On March 12, 1951, Myrtle married Harry “Keith” Anderson at the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Eastvale and was his devoted wife for over 62 years. The two resided in West Mayfield Borough near Beaver Falls, until their declining health necessitated their move to Milton to be nearer to family.

In 1973, she started the “Homemakers in West Mayfield” for interested ladies and led classes for over 10 years. The group was recognized with many honors by the Pennsylvania State Agricultural Extension Service. She was a member of the College Hill United Methodist Church since 1954, served as the treasurer of the Beaver County Rock and Mineral Society, edited the Society’s newsletter, and was a member of the West Mayfield Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She also chaired the committee that organized the Beaver County Historical Publication entitled Beaver Falls and was an avid genealogist. She worked part-time in the Beaver County Daycare at the West Park School and was a food service employee of the Blackhawk School District at the West Park School. Myrtle retained a dedicated work ethic regardless of the project.

She was the mother of two children, Sharon Anderson Walter, of Milton, and Brian Keith Anderson, of San Antonio, Texas. In addition, she is survived by son-in-law, John Walter; daughter-in-law, Norma Contreras Anderson; five grandchildren, Christopher Walter, of Bloomsburg, Pa., Michelle Walter McHale, of Penn Argyl, Pa., Debra Walter Dorkoski, Athens, Ohio, Adrian Anderson, of San Antonio, and Cristina Anderson, of San Antonio; and four great-grandchildren, Emily McHale, Katie McHale, Nathan Walter and Chloe Walter.

Myrtle will be interred at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with her husband Keith. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family is being assisted by the V L Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
