SUNBURY — Donald C. Carter, 86, of Sunbury, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, in the Sunbury Health & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Shamokin, a son of the late Lewis and Ellen (Wrights) Carter. In 1953, he married the former Eileen Knouse, who survives.
Donald served as a staff sergeant with the Army’s Eighth Armored Division in Europe during World War II.
He was employed by the Madison Bakery in Shamokin and for the last 35 years at Celotex, Sunbury.
Donald was a member of Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church, Sunbury, the Friendship Hose Company, Sunbury, and the Northumberland Fire Company No. 1.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, Martha Hoover, of Elizabethtown, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Glenn, Richard, Norman, Robert and Roy, and three sisters, Ruth, Grace and Alice.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday in Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church, Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 2.
Interment will be in Miller’s Crossroads United Methodist Cemetery, Shamokin Township.
Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
