Shirley L. Zechman, 78, Beavertown

— BEAVERTOWN — Shirley L. Zechman, 78, of Covered Bridge Road, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

She was born Jan. 20, 1936, in Mount Pleasant Mills, a daughter of the late Walter and S. Grace (Heintzleman) Tharp. On March 1, 1952, she married Rudolph J. Zechman, who preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1996.

Shirley attended elementary schools in Mount Pleasant Mills and Freeburg before attending Selinsgrove High School.

She previously worked on her family’s dairy farm and later was employed at NQ2 in Mifflinburg.

Shirley previously attended Beavertown God’s Missionary Church with her husband and recently had been attending Christ Church in Beaver Springs.

She enjoyed doing embroidery and crafts and was known for decorating for every holiday. She also enjoyed working outside in her flower beds. The main loves of her life were her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Darla and Gary Schrader; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Larry R. Zechman and Alan and Lori Zechman; grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Lisa Schrader, Rebecca and Dannie Hostetler, Kimberly and Dwight Hart, Nathaniel and Amy Zechman, Aaron and Bethany Zechman, Justin and Cristina Zechman, Alania and Travis Weaver and LaTonya and Bradley Wilt; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Molly, Emma, Lily, Isaac, Mckenzie, Owen, Samanatha, Maya, Macie, Rylee, Storm, Kenadie, Rj and Nittany; and two brothers, Walter Tharp and Glenn Tharp.

She was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Emily Schrader; one daughter-in-law, Cheryll L. Zechman; one brother, Robert Tharp; and four sisters, Verna Beaver, Dorothy Lewis, Betty Castro and Connie Tharp.

Friends and family will be received from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Beavertown God’s Missionary Church, where a memorial service will follow at 1 with Pastor Jeffrey Stratton and Pastor Timothy Reich officiating.

Interment will follow in Beavertown God’s Missionary Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to Beavertown God’s Missionary Church, 1693 Creek Road, Beavertown, PA 17842; Christ Church, 800 Center Ave., Beaver Springs, PA 17812; or to Wayside Church, 14083 Route 104, Middleburg, PA 17842.
