MILTON — Clyde E. Smith, 85, of Limestoneville Road, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at his home.
He was born Jan. 20, 1929, in West Hemlock Township, Montour County, a son of the late Orval and Savannah (Diehl) Smith. He was married to the former Doris A. Reish, and they would have celebrated 61 years of marriage on March 14.
Clyde served in the Army during the Korean War.
He had been employed by ConAgra, Milton, for more than 33 years.
Clyde was a member of First Baptist Church, Milton, where he was a member of the choir for 36 years.
Clyde was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed wood working, singing in the choir, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and took great pride in his yard and his apple orchard. He shared his delicious apple pies and apple cider with many.
He enjoyed western movies, riding horses, and he walked daily. He just loved life!
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Wayne Smith, of Turbotville, and James and April Smith, of Milton; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan (Smith) and Bill Lauver, of Middleburg; four grandchildren, Krista Page, Eric Lauver, Ashley Trovato and Brandon Smith; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Owen and William Smith, and one sister, Eleanor Kline.
Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. today in the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton, followed by the funeral at 7 with the Rev. Donald L. Harbaugh officiating.
Private committal services will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
The family will provide flowers and ask for memorial contributions in Clyde’s memory be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
