Marian L. Dunklebarger, 88, Millheim

— MILLHEIM — Marian Louise Dunklebarger, 88, of Millheim, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 1, 2014.

She was born Jan. 30, 1926, in Millheim, a daughter of the late Thomas K. and Tessie (Yearick) Frank. On May 15, 1947, she married Guy K. Dunklebarger, of Bellefonte. Guy preceded her in death on July 14, 2006.

Marian was a 1943 graduate of East Penns Valley High School and attended Central Penn Business College in Harrisburg.

In her younger years, Marian was employed at the Millheim post office and wrote local news for the Millheim Journal and Centre Daily Times. She then worked as a telephone operator and receptionist at the Laurelton State School and Hospital for more than 23 years.

She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Millheim. In her younger years, she was a member of the choir, and until her death, she enjoyed music, and it was a special part of her life. She also found great joy as a volunteer reader to nursery school children at St. John’s Childhood Center. Following her retirement, she volunteered for more than 10 years at the Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte. Marian always found that period of her life very rewarding. She enjoyed visiting with the residents, playing games with them, taking them for walks, reading to them and writing letters and cards for them. She also helped with the weekly singing program. In 1993, Marian was chosen as Centre Crest’s “Volunteer of the Year” for her dedicated years of service.

Marian is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Connie; three grandchildren, Joshua and his wife, Erica, Ashley and Skylar; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Caleb. Her family brought great joy to her life.

Marian was preceded in death by one son, Robert; one brother, Richard Frank; and one sister, Kathryn Shope. She was the last of her immediate family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Millheim, with the Rev. Julia Sprenkle officiating.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box  439, Millheim, PA 16854, or to Hope Fund of Penns Valley, P.O. Box 427, Centre Hall, PA 16828.
