Martin L. “Mart” Dillman Sr., 82, Mount Pleasant Mills

— MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS — Martin L. “Mart” Dillman Sr., 82, of Mount Pleasant Mills, entered into rest on Sunday, March 2, 2014, surrounded by his family in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Martin was born Jan. 4, 1932, in Port Royal, a son of the late Harry Dillman and Lida B. (Fuller) Dillman-Foose. He was the husband of Virginia “Ginny” (Shirley) Dillman for 16 years and the late Betty J. (Arnold) Dillman, to whom he was married for 37 years.

He retired after 20 years, 20 days from the Army. Martin was stationed in Kentucky, Virginia, Kansas and Alaska. He served in Korea with the Corps of Engineers. He received many medals and commendations, including the Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Clip with three LPS, National Defense Service Medal with one OLC, the Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Korean War Service Medal, two Bronze Stars and the U.N. Service Medal. Following retirement from the Army, he worked for Furman’s Cannery, Northumberland, Triangle Pacific, TRW and Beavertown Block. Martin also hauled produce, vehicles and passengers for the local community. He attended Thompson Business Institute, Harrisburg, for mechanical drafting.

He was a member of Liverpool American Legion Post 364.

In his earlier years, Martin enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was known as a “jack of all trades” and enjoyed woodworking, fixing lawn mowers and garden tractors. Martin also enjoyed watching the WWE and western movies and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Ginny, he is survived by seven children and their spouses, Martin L. Dillman Jr., of Las Vegas, Jeanne E. and Robert Farrow Sr., of Northumberland, David A. and Melissa Dillman, of Middleburg, Debra K. Wolf, of Selinsgrove, Brenda L. and Philip Lizardi, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Gail L. and Craig Litchard, of Northumberland, and Sharon A. Rauch, of Mount Pleasant Mills; three stepchildren, Angel R. Steele and husband Bill, of York Springs, Renee L. Potteiger, of Liverpool, and Barry J. Berrier Jr. and wife Amy, of Port Royal; 15 grandchildren, Anthony, Cheryl, Daniel and David Dillman, of Las Vegas, Robert Farrow Jr. and his companion, Mirza, Jeff Farrow and companion Ron, Terry Farrow and wife Beth, Cody Dillman, Travis Dillman, Heaven Dillman, Holly Dillman, Brian Dillman and wife Jennifer, Rebekah Lizardi, Samantha Litchard and Megan Litchard; nine stepgrandchildren, Damian, Dorian and Teaghan Steele, Justin Thorpe, Tyler Thorpe, Jada Mosley and Mercedes, Gage and Elise Berrier; four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Alexis, Landon and Jordan; and four brothers, Guy Dillman, of Mifflintown, Harry Dillman, of New York, Greg Fosselman, of McAlisterville and Ken Foose, of Mifflintown.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, in infancy, and two sisters, Betty Notestein and Barbara Rotz.

Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, followed by the funeral at 11, in the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills, with Pastor Daryl Kuhns officiating.

Burial with full military rites accorded by Selinsgrove American Legion Post 25 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6631 will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Liverpool.
